Blowing Sands Glass Studio Glass Sea Urchin in Blues

★★★★★5.0·1 ratings

Blowing Sands Glass Studio is an active part of the Seattle glass arts community. David Smith, owner/lead glass blower, was introduced to the art of glass blowing while studying for a degree in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. After graduating in 1983, he returned to Seattle and started working full-time as a glass blower. Four years later, he bought a one-way ticket to China, traveled across Asia and the Soviet Union, and spent 5 years living and working with artists in Finland, Germany, France and Ireland. He returned to Seattle and established his own studio/hot-shop in the Ballard neighborhood. His work is an extension of his technical background in glass science and his love of the traditions and history of glass blowing throughout the world. Attention is taken in each step: Gathering clear glass from the furnace, melting on layers of colored glass, and sculpting. Since each piece is hand-sculpted, there are slight variations in each urchin.

Doc fetch goes through Layer's Aerospike pull-through cache; cache hit served the row without touching turbopuffer. The similar query asks Layer for nearest neighbors of the stored product vector — queries don't go through the doc cache, so no cache header is set.
